KORBULIC

Eddie Bauer Kayak Guide

ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST ACCOMPLISHED EXPEDITION KAYAKERS

Korbulic began his career spending years living out of a small hatchback traveling between class V rivers in the Western US and airports for overseas adventures. An expedition white-water kayaker and pro photographer, he has ticked a life list of big-water first descents in some of the most remote corners of the globe—from Patagonia to Indonesia to Central Africa and the Arctic. The native Oregonian has ranged from the underground rivers of the Iso Gorge in Papua New Guinea and the ice caps of the Svalbard Archipelago through every continent except Antarctica, missions in Pakistan, Venezuela, Congo, Siberia, Bhutan and Myanmar, two countries where he is questionably welcome. On trips to the world’s most shrouded rivers, Korbulic has tallied more than 90 first descents on sections of rivers in 28 countries while documenting the journey with camera in hand.

He has pioneered a succession of world-class waterfalls, including 100+ foot Rainbow Falls in Hawaii and another hundred-footer dubbed "199 Problems" in California, among others. He appeared in the award-winning Banff Film Festival movie Kadoma and completed the first descent of California’s Impossible Gorge on the Marble Fork of the Kaweah, an epic mission that was chronicled in the film Walled In. He also helped guide the first commercial descent of the Murchison Falls section of the Nile River in Uganda. Named one of the world's 50 most adventurous men by Men's Journal and Outside Magazine, and a 2016 nominee for National Geographic's Adventurer of the Year, he has been recognized as a true modern river explorer.

Beyond the action and adrenaline, Chris focuses on stories and expeditions with compelling human elements and distinct visual identities. He has now graduated to a high-roof van for living on the road everywhere between California and Alaska, and his search for the ultimate river is more fervent than ever.
